Patrick N. Giordano

An attorney with 23 years experience in public utility matters, Mr. Giordano has been centrally involved in many of the most important energy issues in the State of Illinois. Mr. Giordano:
  • Established Giordano & Neilan, Ltd., Chicago's first law firm devoted to energy and telecommunications.
  • Was the lead consumer negotiator of an historic settlement with Commonwealth Edison and other parties in March 2003 designed to assure that reliable savings can be achieved through competitive electricity.
  • Achieved numerous other settlements with Commonwealth Edison and other utilities through effective litigation on behalf of various clients, including a challenge to Commonwealth Edison's coal contracts on behalf of the City of Chicago that resulted in $2 billion in savings and $102.5 million in refunds to consumers.
  • Negotiated long-term energy supply contracts in several states, saving over $100 million for private and public sector clients.
  • Has counseled Richard M. Daley, Mayor of Chicago, on energy issues since 1981. Mayor Daley has called Patrick "one of the most knowledgeable experts on utility matters in the country."
  • Worked on the Illinois Electric Service Customer Choice and Rate Relief Act of 1997 - the law that created competition among suppliers.
  • Initiated the Chicago energy practice of the law firm Foley & Lardner.
  • Supervised the Public Utilities Division of the Cook County State's Attorney's Office.
